The Hudaibiah Agreement
The Hudaibiah Agreement is a peace agreement between the Muslims of Madinah and the Musyrikins of Mekah.
As the leader of the Muslims, Prophet Muhammad Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam had accepted the agreement graciously even though it was drawn out by the Quraishy people without discussing it with the Prophet.
The details of the Hudaibiah Agreement is as followed:
- Stop fighting for 10 years
- Within these 10 years if a Quraishy wanted to convert to Islam without the permission of the family, the Muslims must decline. But if a Quraishy wants to convert back or murtad, then the Muslims must allow it.
- Muslims were not allowed to enter Mekah that year (6th Hijrah) but allowed to enter the next year for only 3 days.
- Other Arab groups may side with the Quraishy or Muslims.
To receive protection from the agreement, two tribes chose to be included. Bani Khuza’ah sided with the Muslims and Bani Bakar sided with the Quraishy.
At the end, Bani Bakar violated the agreement by attacking Bani Khuza’ah. This later led to Prophet Muhammad and the Muslims to take over Mekah.
