Jemaah Prayer
Jemaah prayer is a prayer led by an imam. The reward for praying jemaah is 27 times more than praying alone. Praying in a jemaah means following all the rules, especially in a mosque.
Among some of the rules are:
- A person who follows a prayer led by an imam must say niyyat as a makmum. For instance:
أُصَلِّيْ فَرْضَ الظُّهْرِ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ مَأْمُوْماً للهِ تَعَالَى
- The makmum must pray behind the imam. If the makmum is only one man, then he must pray on the right of the imam. If another person joins, he must stand to the left of the imam and recite takbiratul-ihram and then one by one the makmum must move to the back of the imam and create a saf.
- The makmum must follow the imam and not go ahead of him or too slow for no reason.
Some of the etiquette and rules during jemaah prayers:
- The makmum must stand in a straight line in a saf. The line must not be crooked.
- The line must start from the middle
- Once the imam says his salam, the makmum should wait till he says his second salam and only then say his own.
