The Battle of Tabuk

The victory of Muslimins in Mekah and the spreading of Islam began to worry the Romans. They were determined to destroy the Muslims.

The Emperor of Rome ordered to prepare the army for battle against Islam. Their army consisted of 40,000 soldiers.

When Prophet Muhammad got wind of this, he asked all Muslims to help equip their army. The Muslims donated whatever they could afford and it totaled to a large amount.

The Muslim army was named Jaisyul Usrah, which meant “soldiers in hardship” as it was very hard to outfit the army of thousands.

Prophet Muhammad and his army headed toward a place called Tabuk. It was located on the border between Syria and Madinah.

As the weather was too hot, quite a number of Muslims turned back. They could not stand the heat. Rasulullah did not take any action against them.

For three days they camped in Tabuk, but the Romans never showed up to fight. Eventually the Muslims headed back to Madinah.

This incident took place in the ninth year of Hijrah.
