The Battle of Khaibar
Khaibar is an area near Madinah where the Jews lived. In Khaibar there were many barriers to guard the area, as there were dates plantations belonging to them.
The Jews had taken part in the previous Khandak battle against the Muslims. They also attacked the Muslims who had banished the Quraidzah Jews. Prophet Muhammad was determined to defeat the enemy.
He had prepared his army of six thousand and their way through the barriers. The Jews were surrounded for six days. On the seventh day, their fortresses were breached too and they admitted defeat. They were allowed to leave Madinah with only their belongings that could be mounted onto their camels.
With the taking over of Khaibar by the Muslims, a few other areas were also taken over including Wadi Al-Qura and Fadak Taimo’a. These areas were also subjected to the peace agreement and had to pay jizyah or tax to the Muslim governor.
The events took place during the seventh year of Hijrah. The Prophet Muhammad and the Muslims were able to qada’ their umrah which was prevented the year before as stated in the Hudaibiah Agreement.
It was during this year too that a few Quraishy leaders converted to Islam. They were Khalid bin Al-Walid, Amru bin Al-As and Osman bin Abu Talhah.
