The Battle of Bani Al-Mustaliq
Bani Al-Mustaliq were the Arabic sub-clan of Bani Khuza’ah. They had planned to attack the Muslims.
When Prophet Muhammad found out about it, he prepared his army to defend themselves. Prophet Muhammad led his army to place called Al-Muraisiq and a battle between the two groups took place. The Muslims eventually won and obtained a lot of the enemies’ possessions.
The children and women were also captured. Amongst them was the daughter of the leader of Bani Al-Mustaliq, Juwairiah binti Al-Haris.
To encourage those captured to accept and not hate the Muslims, Prophet Muhammad married Juwairiah. The Companions of the Prophet then released their captives for respect to Prophet Muhammad. They felt it was improper to keep the relatives of the Prophet’s wife as captives.
