Stay away from vanity

Ujub is an Arabic word for vanity or when a person perceives himself as being perfect.

Islam forbids us from feeling that way, as we do not know if Allah Ta’ala has even accepted our good deeds.

People who are ujub tend to look down on others and that will erase all the good we might have done. We must remember that there is always somebody else who is better than us.

If we feel we are smart, there is somebody who is smarter than us. If we think we are very rich, there is always somebody who is richer. So we must always remember our weaknesses and be grateful with what we have. Allah has given us each of us blessings and so we must not belittle others.

Allah Ta’ala says:

فَلاَ تُزَكُّوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَى

Don’t be praising yourself, as only Allah knows those who truly has taqwa.

🔊 Ask your ustaz or ustazah to recite the Arabic with you.
