Solatul Qasar and Jama’
Qasar prayer is the prayer that has been shortened to two rakaah from 4 rakaah.
Jama’ prayer are two prayers which are performed at the same time.
Those who should pray solat qasar and jama’ are those who travel further than 90 km. The journey must be one of good intentions and not for vice.
The prayers that can be shortened are zuhur, asar and isya’. While the ones that can be done together as solat jama’ are zuhur and asar; and maghrib and isya’.
Praying Jama’ zuhur with asar during the zuhur time period is called Jama’ Taqdim which means bringing forward. When zuhur is prayed during asar it is called Jama’ Ta’khir meaning delaying.
Travellers may also pray Isya’ during the Maghrib duration and perform Maghrib prayers during Isya’.
The niat for Qasr and Jama’ Taqdim is:
The niat for Qasr and Jama’ ta’khir is:
The niat jama’ is only needed to be said for the first prayer. So for the second prayer we need only to say the fardh. Example:
If you are on a journey, you may pray jama’ without qasar or just qasar without jama’. You may also pray the daily prayers as per the usual. All is permissible.
