The Battle of Uhud
This battle took place during the third year of Hijrah in the month of Syawal on the foot of a hill called Uhud just outside of Madinah. There were 700 Muslim soldiers and 3,000 Musyrikin soldiers.
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) ordered 50 soldiers with bows and arrows to guard at the top of the hill and aid the soldiers down below. Prophet Muhammad also asked them to not leave their post until they received orders from him.
The Muslims had initially won the battle and the Quraishy soldiers ran off, leaving behind their belongings and weapons.
30 Musyrikin soldiers were killed, and the Muslim soldiers began to take the weapons left behind by the enemy. The Muslim soldiers on the top of the hill saw this and greedily began coming down even though they were told not to. The Quraishy people led by Khalid Al-Walid, before he converted to Islam, saw the opportunity and took over the top of the hill. They killed many Muslims from the top of the hill.
And so began another battle which the Muslims lost. 70 Muslim soldiers died syahid including Saidina Hamzah Radhiallahu –anhu.
